WPL24 : RCB helped by their bowlers , thrash timid Gujarat Giants by 8 wickets
Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Gujarat Giants by 8 wickets in Women's Premier League. Batting first in Tuesday's match, Beth Mooney's team scored only 107 runs for 7 wickets. In reply Smriti Mandhana led RCB picked up 110 runs for 2 wickets in only 12.3 overs.
Mandhana won the toss and decided to field . GG could not make use of the opportunity to bat first. They could not take advantage of Bengaluru's controlled bowling. Apart from opener Harleen Deol and No.6 Dayalan Hemalta, no one could put up any resistance with the bat. Deol scored 22 runs off 31 balls. She hit 3 fours. Hemalta remained unbeaten by playing an innings of 31 runs off 25 balls. 2 fours and 1 six came from her bat. Apart from this, Sneh Rana scored 12 off 10 balls. No other Gujarat batsman could score double-digit runs. Mooney (8), Phoebe Litchfield (5), Veda Krishnamurthy (9), Ashley Gardner (7), Catherine Bricera (3) failed. Bangalore's most successful bowler is Sophie Molineux. The Australian left-arm spinner took 3 wickets for 25 runs. 2 wickets for 14 runs by India's swing bowler Renuka Singh who was adjudged the player of the match .
In reply RCB picked up an easy win. The Bengaluru captain played an important role with the bat in the team's victory. She played an aggressive innings of 43 runs off 27 balls while opening . 8 fours and 1 six came from her bat as she launched a fierce onslaught in the first few overs playing dazzling strokes . The other opener Sophie Devine (6) did not get going but there was no problem as the winning target was not big. Sabbineni Meghana, who came at number three, played a strokeful unbeaten innings of 36 runs off 28 balls. Her innings has 5 fours and 1 six. Elyse Perry was at 22 yards with Meghna at the end. Perry remained unbeaten with 23 runs off 14 balls. 4 boundaries came from his bat. Gujarat's most successful bowler Gardner took 1 wicket for 15 runs. 1 wicket for 20 runs by Tanuja Kanwar.
As a result of this day's victory, RCB came to the top with 4 points in 2 matches. Harmanpreet Kaur's Mumbai Indians also got 4 points from 2 matches. However, Bengaluru is ahead in net run rate. On the other hand, Gujarat lost both the matches and placed fifth. Renuka Singh for her 2 wickets was the player of the match
