New Zealand dominant vs South Africa in 1st test after Ravindra masterclass

As India and England are competing in a high octane 5 Test series for the WTC , down south we have New Zealand hosting a new look South Africa at Bay Oval for the 1st of the two tests . The Proteas are without their 1st choice test players who are all involved in the ongoing SA20 ( the South African T20 league) .

The new look South Africa started well after being asked to bowl , knocking off the Kiwi openers Conway(1) and Latham (20) cheaply but from 39/2 , Kane Williamson and Rachin Ravindra got into a marathon 232 run 3rd wicket stand of classic batsmanship . Williamson continued to pile on the runs in effortless and no nonsense fashion having got a life at 45 while Ravindra constructed his maiden test ton in the most sublime fashion executing elegant drives , cuts and flicks which was so easy to the eye . Williamson notched up his 30th test ton and finally left early on day 2 for 118 . Daryl Mitchell (34) had a brief stay till he was caught and bowled by Neil Brand . Finally Ravindra got his double hundred and went on to ammas a glorious 240 before he was bowled by Brand . Phillips (39) and Henry (27) played cameos as the hosts were finally 511 all out with skipper Neil Brand on debut picking up 6 wickets.

In reply South Africa reached  80/4 at close with Jamieson creating early inroads by dismissing Neil Brand (4) and Tonder (0) . Edward Moore (23) battled hard before Henry got him out to a short ball that was fended to shoot cover for Conway to take a diving catch.  Hamza (22) got out played on to Santner after settling down.  At close Bedingham (29) and Keegan Petersen (2) remained unbeaten as the tourists limped to 80/4 .  The inexperience of South Africa team was exposed  already in both days of the 1st test .
