Aus v WI : Bartlett, Inglis dazzle as Aus thrash WIndies by 8 wkts in 1st ODI

 



Australia played their 1st ODI since winning the World cup on 19 November at Ahmedabad vs India and has notched up their 10th successive win and thus continuing from their 9 successive winning run till the famous final .  On this day Australia played a new look team against the West Indies and cruised to a 8 wicket win .


With several top players rested , Steve Smith leading the team won the toss and bowled . Australia started with 2 new opening bowlers in Lance Morris and Xavier Bartlett . Bartlett bowled a wonderful first spell getting Greaves (1) with an unplayable leg cutter and in the next over he had the promising youngster Athanaze (5) caught behind . West Indies captain and premier batter Shai Hope also could not give much hope as Bartlett had him caught in the slips for 12 . Green chipped in with Hodge's (11) wicket as West Indies slumped to 59/4. Keacy Carty (88) and Roston Chase (59) then put on a stubborn 110 run stand by playing sensible cricket , rotating the strike and punishing the loose balls till Chase was bowled by Zampa trying to sweep . Carty was run out . Brief resistance from Walsh (20) and Forde (19) took West Indies to 231 all out in 48.4 overs with Bartlett taking 4/17 in a sensational debut .


In reply West Indies had early success as Travis Head after hitting a gorgeous straight driven 4 was caught behind off Forde but Josh Inglis playing the match despite covid issue , played a spectacular innings of 65 off 43 balls with 10 fours and 1 six . Inglis was driving , cutting, pulling with disdain as he dazzled his way hitting breathtaking shots . The hosts never had a challenging asking rate after Inglis knock as Cameron Green (77*) and Steve Smith (79*) just milked the West Indies bowling by rotating the strike and punishing loose balls to complete an unbeaten 149 run stand and win the game with 12 overs to spare . Bartlett for his brilliant spell was the player of the match.
