England set 399 target post India collapse after Gill hundred
India needs 9 wickets to win Visakhapatnam Test. On the other hand, England side need 332 runs in last 2 days . India-England 2nd Test is definitely heading towards the result. Naturally, the eyes of cricket lovers will be on Visakhapatnam on Monday.
After India's second innings ended on 255 runs, England's target for victory was 399 runs. At the end of the game on Sunday, they were 67 for 1. Ben Duckett was dismissed for 28 runs by Ravichandran Ashwin. Jack Crawley (29) and Rehan Ahmed (9) are unbeaten with Crawley having played some glorious shots . Although the target was big, Stokes opted for aggressive cricket in the fourth innings. They are looking to win the second Test on Indian soil by clinging to their cricket philosophy of bazball which has put some pressure on Rohit's India . England batted 14 overs on Sunday but India managed to take only 1 wicket. English spinner Rehan Ahmed also batted in an aggressive mood. Mukesh Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Akshar Patel were chosen by the English to attack. Bumrah was tight and economical as usual .
Earlier, however, the Indian team could not score the expected runs in the second innings. The hosts are in a fighting position with a lead of 143 runs in the first innings. Apart from skipper Rohit, the performances of Shreyas Iyer, Srikar Bharat are becoming a cause of concern for Rahul Dravid. Shubman Gill's much-desired hundred came at an important time . After 11 months he scored a hundred in red ball cricket. Akshar accompanied Shubman. Both managed the team's innings together. Two batters were out before the tea break, but by then India's lead had increased considerably.
Shubman did not get runs for several matches. After 12 innings, he crossed the 50-run barrier in the Test. Shubman scored a hundred against Australia in Ahmedabad in March last year. After almost a year, Shubman scored a hundred again with the red ball. He got out after scoring 104 runs off 147 balls. Gill's innings was studded with gorgeous shots with his punch drives , flicks & sweeps . This innings was also important for him personally as his spot was under a bit of threat but now he is likely to perform in his best version with his confidence back . An sparkling innings of 45 runs came from Akshar's bat. Apart from this, Ashwin scored 29 runs. Yasaswi Jaiswal (17) did not get big runs in the second innings. Rohit (13), Shreyas (29), Rajat Patidar (9), Bharat (6) all failed with Rohit getting an unplayable delivery for Anderson that knocked off his stumps while Shreyas was brilliantly caught by Stokes . Patidar was out to a brilliant low catch by Foakes while Bharat played a poor shot .
Among England's bowlers, Tom Hartley took 4 wickets for 77 runs. Rehan's 3 wickets with 88 runs. James Anderson took 2 wickets for 29 runs. 1 wicket for 58 runs by Shoaib Basir.
