Duckett causes mayhem as England reach 207/2 v India, Ashwin gets 500th test wkt
The 3rd test between England and India is interestingly poised after day 2 . India piled on 445 after starting the day at 326/5 but in reply Ben Duckett led England's glorious reply as the toursts raced to 207/2 at close .
Starting the day at 326/5 , India rapidly lost Kuldeep (4) caught behind off Anderson and Jadeja (112) caught and bowled off Root . However Ashwin and debutant keeper Dhruv Jurel got into an impressive partnership and borh played sparkling shots to move India's innings ahead . Ashwin (37) finally fell to Rehan Ahmed who also scalped Dhruv Jurel (46) after the debutant played a fine innings . Later Bumrah (26) played some lusty shots to take India to 445 . Mark Wood took the maximum 4 wickets for England.
The visitors reached 31/0 at tea but it was post tea that the fireworks started . Ben Duckett came out all guns blazing and absolutely smashed the Indian bowling to all parts of the field with his drives , cuts , sweeps and reverse sweeps as England raced along
Meanwhile , Zak Crawley (15) fell cheaply being caught by Patidar at fine leg off Ashwin who finally reached his 500th test wicket after a long wait . Ashwin thus became the 2nd Indian bowler after Kumble to reach the 500th wicket historic mark in tests .
Pope joined Duckett who carried on regardless and continued to blaze the Indian bowling to all parts as he reached a scintillating century . Pope (39) was batting confidently till Siraj had him lbw on a review . Root (9*) stayed with Duckett (133*) till the end . England hammered 176 runs in the final session courtesy Duckett who scored 114 in the same period.
With England at 207/2 the test match is delicately poised .
