Dominant Aussie bowlers blow away New Zealand to seal T20I series in 2nd game
Australian bowlers put on a stellar show in the 2nd T20I against New Zealand at Eden Park after their batters messed up a great start when they batted first . Chasing 174 , the hosts just could not get any partnership going abd collapsed for 102 to lose by 72 runs and also conceding an unassailable deficit of 0-2 in the 3 match series in the world cup year .
Batting first Australia started brightly as Travis Head came out all guns blazing . He smashed explosive shots all around with some going off the edges abd the rest hit with great power and timing as Head raced to 45 in 22 balls with 5 sixes before missing a hoick to ve bowled by Ben Sears . Earlier Head lost his opening partner Smith , who after playing a crashing cut and a ramp shot was out to a searing Ferguson yorker lbw for 11 . Marsh (26) looked good and played few big shots but the Aussies collapsed from 104/2 in 9th over to 138/8 in the 15th over with Maxwell (5) , Inglis (3) , Wade (1) and David (17) falling cheaply . It finally fell on Pat Cummins to take the score to some respectibility as his 28 took Australia to 174 in 20 overs . For New Zealand, Lockie Ferguson took 4/12 in a brilliant spell of fast bowling while Sears , Milne and Santner took 2 wickets each .
In reply New Zealand keep losing wickets in a poor chase . Allen (6) played on to Hazlewood, Young (5) brilliantly caught by Wade running to backward square leg off a skier off Cummins . Santner (7) was lbw to Ellis ( injured Conway could not bat ) . Chapman(2) abd Clarksson (10) went cheaply . Only Glenn Phillips (42) stayed and raised slim hopes of a New Zealand win playing some blistering shots but once he was dismissed by Zampa , the rest fell quickly and Australia won by 72 runs .
Zampa took 4 wickets in a fine bowling performance on a small ground, Ellis took 2 while the rest of the pacers took 1 wicket each . Cummins for his tight bowling and valuable batting contribution was the player of the match as the 3rd T20I will now only be of academic interest .
