Proteas women stun Aussies in 2nd ODI after Kapp masterclass

 


South Africa women pulled off an astounding result  stunning Australia women by 84 runs on duckworth Lewis method after several rain delays . Helped by an allround Marizanne Kapp show the Proteas pulled off their first ever ODI win over near invincible Aussies .


Batting first in cloudy conditions at North Sydney the visitors lost skipper Laura Wolvaardt (0) early to a spectacular catch by a diving Mooney of Schutt but Anneke Bosch and Tazmin Brits got into a brave stand of 54 runs in which Bosch was the aggressor scoring a brisk 44 off 46 balls hitting many glorious shots . Brits(21) was out to Sutherland who caught Luus (19) off Gardner but it was Marizanne Kapp who played a dazzling knock of 75 off 87 balls and 12 fours .Kapp drive , cut abd flicked with disdain abd was well supported by Chloe Tyron (36) as South Africa finally reached an impressive 229/6 in rain curtained 45 overs . For Aussies Gardner and Schutt took 2 wickets each .


In reply Australia in cloudy conditions was rocked right from the start with Healy (4) edging Kapp to keeper and Mooney (0) getting a vicious inswinger from Kapp that rattled her stumps . Kapp had Litchfield (14) lbw to further dent the Aussie top order . The famed Aussie middle order was ripped apart by new bowlers Hlubi & Marx as Perry (2) , Sutherland (1) and Wareham (0) bite the dust . McGrath (22) too could not rescue getting out to deClerk and King (0) followed soon . Finally it was Kim Garth and Ashleigh Gardner who joined forces at 71/8 and played glorious shots to stage a superb fightback with a 77 run stand in just 15 overs  . Just when it looked that Australia was getting ominous , Gardner (35) departed and Schutt followed soon leaving Kim Garth on a valiant 42 not out and Australia all out for 149 thereby losing by a DL method by 84 runs with Kapp taking 3/12 in another superb all round show and getting the player of the match . The series is now delicately poised at 1-1 with one more to play .



1st ODI 


Earlier after winning the T20I series 2-1 , Australia women thrashed their South Africa counterparts by 8 wickets in 1st ODI at Adelaide . 3 ODIs are to be played before the one off test . Batting first the hosts was subject to a horrendous batting performance.  The Australian bowlers were all over them as South Africa lost wickets in clumps.  Only Marizanne Kapp showed her fighting qualities with a superb 50 in 58 balls but she did not get any support.  There was some resistance from deClerk (18) but fine Australian bowling specially from a tight Kim Garth (2 wickets) and a skilful Alana King (3 wickets ) dismissed South Africa for 106 . The Aussies had little trouble in overhauling the target with Beth Mooney striking a dazzling unbeaten  52 off 34 balls
