Sutherland double ton & late wickets put South Africa women on brink of heavy defeat to Australia
Australia women further strengthened their already dominant position in the one off test against South Africa women . Starting the day at 251/5 they ruthlessly piled on the runs courtesy a glorious double century by 22 year old Annabel Sutherland and fine supporting roles from Gardner & Garth . Later the Aussie quicks took 3 quick wickets to leave the visitors precariously at 67/3 at close .
Sutherland and Gardner started the day steadily but gradually they raused their tempo and soon boundaries started to flow from both batters . Sumptuous drives , cuts , pulls & lofted shots flowed from both batters as Australia marched on. Finally Gardner (65) departed lbw to deClerk but Sophie Molineux played a handy knock of 33 and then Kim Garth partnered a relenless Sutherland as Australia piled on the runs .
Sutherland finally reached her 200 after playing a great array of shots and showed maturity beyond her age . Finally she departed at 210 . Kim Garth reached 49 when King was bowled and Alyssa Healy declared the innings closed at 575/ 9. Klaas and Tyron took 3 wickets each for the visitors while deClerk took 2 wickets.
The Proteas were rattled early in the second inings by an unplayable Kim Garth who swung the ball and a fast Darcie Brown. Bosch (0) was caught in the slips in Garth's 1st over and Luus (5) followed suit soon after. Later Brown bowled an unplayable delivery to get the edge off Wolvaardt (4) for Healy to accept gleefully . Later Brits(18*) and Tucker (27*) held firm to take South Africa to 67/3 at close . However on day 3 it will be a matter of time when South Africa gets all out as Australia will look to wrap up the test quickly .
