T20IWC : Windies thrash Afghans , Fergusion creates record for Kiwis vs Uganda
The teams of West Indies and Afghanistan have already qualified for the Super-8. Now West Indies has defeated the Afghanistan team by 104 runs in the group stage of T20 World Cup 2024. In this match, Nicholas Pooran and Johnson Charles performed very well for West Indies. It is because of these players that the West Indies team has been able to win.
West Indies team scored 92 runs in the powerplay
The West Indies batsmen performed very well against Afghanistan. In the match, Johnson Charles and Nicholas Pooran performed brilliantly and showed their batting skills. Both these players scored 92 runs in the powerplay which is the highest score of any team in the powerplay in the history of T20 World Cup. Earlier, no one was able to make such a big score in the powerplay. In the T20 World Cup 2014, the Netherlands scored 91 runs in the powerplay against Ireland. Now West Indies has broken this record after 10 years. When Johnson Charles was moving towards his half-century and was playing after scoring 43 runs in 27 balls, he got out on the ball of Naveen Ul Haq. After his dismissal, Nicholas Pooran and Shai Hope took the responsibility of scoring runs. Pooran showed explosive batting prowess . But he missed his century by two runs. He scored an explosive 98 runs in 53 balls, which included 6 fours and 8 sixes. Shai Hope contributed 25 runs and Rovman Powell contributed 26 runs.
The Afghan team, which came out to chase the big target, had a very bad start. When Rahmanullah Gurbaz got out after scoring zero runs. Ibrahim Zadran definitely tried to stay on the wicket, but he could not play a big innings. He contributed 38 runs. Apart from Zadran, no other player could play a big innings. Azmatullah Umarzai scored 23 runs. The Afghan team could not play the full 20 overs and was all out for 114 runs. West Indies' Akil Hussain and Gudakesh Moti took 2 wickets each. Obed McCoy took 3 wickets.
Meanwhile in an inconsequential match , New Zealand who were already out of contention played Namibia and beat them by 7 wickets . Namibia scored only 78 all out & New Zealand surpassed the score for the loss of 3 wickets .However a world record is created in this match by Lockie Ferguson who took 3/0 in 4 maiden overs in a T20I match which is an unique feat .
