Indian Chess prodigy Pragyananda beats world no 1 & 2 in Norway Chess meet

 


Rameshbabu Pragyananda is giving one surprise after another in Norway chess competition.  A few days ago he defeated world number one Magnus Carlsen.  This time the world number two Fabiano Caruana was also defeated by the Indian chess player.


 Pragya defeated Caruana in the fifth round match.  He was playing with white knuckles.  Catalan moves to start the game.  He was putting pressure on Caruana from the beginning.  At one point it looked like the game would be a draw.  But Caruana made a mistake in the 66th move.  He has to pay for it.  Pragyananda won the game after 77 moves.


 Pragyananda defeated Carlsen in the third round match.  But he lost to American Hikaru Nakamura in the fourth round match.  As a result, Indian chess fell behind.  He returned to the fight after winning the fifth round.


 Nakamura leads the Norwegian Chess Championship with 10 points after the fifth round.  Carlsen is in second place with 9 points.  Pragyananda is third with 8.5 points.  France's Alireza Firouja is at number four.  Caruana is number five.  Last of all is the current world champion Ding Liren.  His point is 2.5.
