T20IWC : Afghanistan shock New Zealand with bowling brilliance

Afghanistan gave a surprise on Saturday morning.  Rashid Khan & Co defeated New Zealand in T20 World Cup.  Afghanistan batted first and scored 159 runs.  Rahmanullah Gurbaj scored a dazzling 80 runs off 56 balls to bring the team to a fighting position.  In response, New Zealand ended up with only 75 runs.  This is the first time New Zealand has lost a match in T20 World Cup against Afghanistan and it was a crushing defeat .

Many people are dreaming about the Afghanistan team in this T20 World Cup.  The way Rashid & Co dominated the Kiwis with bat and ball on Saturday could see that dream come true.  Afghanistan's main strength is their spin bowling.  But on Saturday, Gurbaz, Fazalhaq Farooqi kept the opponent under pressure in batting and pace bowling.

Kiwi captain Kane Williamson won the toss and sent Afghanistan into bat.  He did not realize that the two openers Gurbaj and Ibrahim Zadran will make a pair of 100 runs.  Trent Boult & Co could not take any wicket till 14.2 overs.  Two Afghan openers made a pair of 103 runs. The Kiwis dropped a lot of catches and some were easy ones . Ibrahim got out after scoring 44 runs.  Azmatullah Omarzai scored 22 runs at number three.  Afghanistan scored 159 runs despite the rest of the batsmen not getting many runs.  Gurbaz hit five sixes and five fours.  He scored 80 runs.

On the pitch where Afghanistan scored 159 runs, it was not thought that New Zealand would end up with a meagre 75 runs.  Farooqui bowled Finn Allen on the first ball.  Williamson, Darryl Mitchell also did not get runs.  Farooqui took four wickets.  Rashid Khan also took four wickets including the big one of Williamson.  Mohammad Nabi took 2 wickets.  New Zealand's innings ended in 15.2 overs.  Naveen Ul Haq did not give more than 10 runs in 3 overs.  Fifth bowler Noor Ahmed did not bowl more than one over.

Afghanistan and New Zealand are in Group C of this year's T20 World Cup.  That group includes West Indies, Uganda and Papua New Guinea.  Afghanistan are topping the group after winning two matches.  West Indies in second place.  They got two points.  Uganda also got two points.  Papua New Guinea has not received any points yet.  New Zealand also lost the first match and did not get any points.  The Kiwis' next match is against the West Indies on June 13 will be a huge one now .  Afghans will play against Papua New Guinea on June 14.

America has already defeated Pakistan in this World Cup.  Ireland lost against Canada.  This time Kiwis had to lose against Afghanistan in some of the unexpected results .
