T20IWC: South Africa survives Netherlands scare to secure narrow win

The Nassau Stadium pitch in New York once again caught the attention of the T20 World Cup.  India-Pakistan match will be held on this ground on Sunday.  Before that, in Saturday's match, the batters of both the Netherlands and South Africa faced problems.  They had to fight for every run.  Batting first, Netherlands lost 9 wickets and scored 103 runs in 20 overs.  South Africa ran into trouble chasing that run.  They somehow managed to win the match by 4 wickets.  South African hero was David Miller.  He remained unbeaten with half a century.

South African captain Aiden Markram won the toss and decided to bowl first.  Marco Jansen took a wicket in the first over.  He returned Michael Levitt for zero runs.  That's the beginning.  Wickets started falling at regular intervals.  Netherlands lost three wickets in the power play.

Cybrand Engelbrecht and Logan van Wyk got the pair among the Netherlands batters.  They made the team cross the century from 6 wickets for 48 runs.  They did not lose wickets even though the run rate was low.  Engelbrecht batted well on this pitch.  He got out after scoring 40 runs.  Van Beek scored 23 runs.  The innings of Netherlands ended with 103 runs.  Among the South African bowlers, Ottoneil Bartman took 4 wickets and Jansen and Anrich Nokhie took 2 wickets each.

South Africa's innings got off to a worse start.  Quinton D'Kock was run out on the first ball without facing a delivery.  Riza Hendricks, Markram and Heinrich Klaasen got out in quick succcession .  South Africa lost 4 wickets for 12 runs.  It looked like South Africa would lose to the Netherlands once again.

Miller took the innings from there.  He paired with Tristan Stubbs.  Used his experience Miller.  The left-handed batsman showed why he is called the backbone of this team.  Young Stubbs also played well in tough conditions.  They were not in a hurry.  Slowly lead the team to victory.

When Stubbs got out for 33 runs & then Jansen for 3 , the Netherlands started smelling victory again.  But Miller was still there.  He did not trust anyone else.  Miller hit some big shots in the end.  He won the match with a six with seven balls to spare.  Miller remains unbeaten with 59 runs off 51 balls and got the player of the match award.
