Iga Swaitek crushes Paolini to win 3rd successive French Open

Poland's Iga Swiatek showcased her French Open prowess on Saturday, defeating Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 6-1 in the final to clinch her third consecutive Roland Garros title. This victory marks Swiatek's fourth Roland Garros singles championship and her third in as many years. The world No.1 from Poland dispatched Italy’s Jasmine Paolini in just 68 minutes, securing her fifth Grand Slam trophy and preserving her flawless record in major finals, having won all five by the age of 23.

Swiatek's triumph extends her Roland Garros winning streak to 21 matches, with her last loss in Paris coming in the 2021 quarter-finals against Maria Sakkari. The match initially seemed competitive when Paolini broke for a surprising 2-1 lead in the first three games. However, Swiatek swiftly took control, winning five consecutive games to claim the first set in 34 minutes.

In the second set, Swiatek continued to dominate, outplaying the 28-year-old Italian and achieving her 35th match win on the Paris clay. At 23, Swiatek has won all five Grand Slam finals she has contested, including a victory at the 2022 US Open.
