T20IWC : Proteas beat Lanka in a low scoring game , Namibia win a thriller in superover

Sri Lanka was embarrassed in the first match of T20 World Cup.  They were all out for 77 runs against South Africa.  But the Asian country fought with the ball.  Despite stumbling, the Proteas eventually won the match by six wickets.  Nortje was the hero of South Africa with four wickets.

Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first.  That decision went against them.  Sri Lanka's batting started to waver from the beginning.  They did not find any answer to the game of South African pacers.  Pathum Nisanka (3) returned in the fourth over with a skier .  After that they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.  No longer pairs were formed.

Only three Sri Lankan batsmen scored double-digit runs.  They are Kushal Mendis (19), Kamindu Mendis (11) and Angelo Mathews (16).  Nortje dismissed all three.  He took 4 wickets for 7 runs in 4 overs.  Two wickets each were taken by  Kagiso Rabada and Otnil Bartman.

Chasing only 79 runs, South Africa was in early trouble.  Reeza Hendricks (4) returned in the second over.  Hitting big shots on slow pitches becomes quite a problem.  With the help of the pitch, the Sri Lankan pacers also continued to exploit its advantage.  Quinton de Kock (20), Aiden Markram (12), Tristan Stubbs (13) did not get many runs but contributed enough in a small chase . Finally Heinrich Klaasen (19 not out) remained unbeaten and won the match . Nortje( 4/7 ) was the player of the match .

Earlier , Namibia began their T20 World Cup campaign with a thrilling victory over Oman in Barbados, securing the win in the first Super Over of the tournament since 2012. Oman, batting first at the Kensington Oval, were bowled out for 109 in 19.4 overs. Namibia matched this score, with Jan Frylinck contributing 45 runs from 48 balls, while Mehran Khan took 3 wickets for 7 runs, leading to the Super Over.

In the Super Over, Namibia's Gerhard Erasmus and David Wiese plundered 21 runs, while Oman could only manage 10 in response. Earlier in the match, Namibia's South Africa-born left-arm fast bowler Ruben Trumpelmann made history by becoming the first player in T20I cricket to take two wickets off the first two balls of a match. The 26-year-old achieved this by dismissing opener Kashyap Prajapati and Oman captain Aqib Ilyas for golden ducks after Namibia chose to field first. Khalid Kail was the top scorer for Oman, with 34 runs from 39 balls.
