T20IWC : Hope onslaught presents Windies new hope with massive win over USA

In the Super Eight, West Indies (West Indies) crushed the United States (USA) by 9 wickets.  Batting first, America scored 128 runs.  In reply, West Indies chased down the runs and lost 1 wicket to get the required runs to win.  The Caribbean won the match with 55 balls to spare which enhanced their net run rate .

Shai Hope might not have played in this match if Brandon King had not been knocked out with a rib injury.  Hope used the opportunity.  He went down to open and hit 8 sixes alone.  Shai Hope remained unbeaten with 82 runs plundered  off just 39 balls. It was a massive onslaught as Hope played dazzling shots all round the ground in a scintillating display . Nicholas Puran remained unbeaten on 27 off just 12 balls.  He also hit 3 sixes.

West Indies won the match in just 10.5 overs.  This shows how powerful the Caribbean batting is.  The win kept West Indies in the race to reach the last four.  And after losing two matches in a row, America's departure is almost certain.

Heavyweight teams like Pakistan were crushed by USA.   They reached the Super Eight as the second team from Group A.  USA had to accept defeat in both matches in Super Eight.

Windies won the toss and elected to field first.  USA batsmen, however, struggled to get runs .  Andreas Gause (29) scored the highest runs for the team.  Nitish Kumar scored 20 runs.  The rest did not get many runs .  Among the Caribbean bowlers, Russell and player of the match Roston Chase took 3 wickets each.  Chase took 3/19 in 4 overs to set up the West Indies victory

Chasing America's runs, Shai Hope launched a fierce onslaught from the start.  He blew American bowlers all over the field.  Hope survived till the end. Other opener Charles went back but Hope did not stop.  In the end, Hope and Pooran (27*) kept the West Indies unbeaten and won the match.  The win keeps the Caribbean's World Cup hopes alive. With their NRR best in this group now , they need a normal win over South Africa to qualify.  With England likely to improve their NRR also vs USA in their last game to stay in the contention , South Africa themselves will need nothing less than a win in their final super 8 game to qualify for the semis . This means that the South Africa vs West Indies game will be a virtual knockout .
