IndW v SAW test : World record by Indian women , Shafali slams 205 !!

India's Shefali Verma holds a new world record in women's Test cricket.  Shefali is the fastest double-hundred scorer.  Annabelle Sutherland's record was broken.  In both cases, the opposing team is South Africa.  India-South Africa Test started from Friday.  India scored a mammoth  525 runs for 4 wickets on the first day there in 98 overs and this is a world record of the highest number of runs on day one of  test cricket  history combining both men and women

Shefali scored a double hundred off 194 balls.  Sutherland scored a double hundred off 248 balls.  In the end, she got run out after scoring 205 runs off 197 balls.  Hit 23 dazzling  fours and eight powerpacked sixes.  She could not break Mithali Raj's record of 214 runs for just 9 runs.  That is the highest innings for India in Tests.  The world record is held by Pakistan's Kiran Baloch.  She scored 242 runs.

Shefali and Smriti Mandhana came to open for India.  Both of them made a partnership of 292 runs.  Pakistan previously held the record for most runs in the opening pair in women's Tests.  Kiran Baloch and Sajjida Shah formed a partnership of 241 runs.  Shefali broke the record of 2004.  It may be noted that Shefali and Smriti also held India's record for most runs in women's cricket opening.  In 2021, they made a pair of 167 runs against England.  They broke that too.  Mandhana was dismissed for 149 runs.  She as usual played crisp shots all around the ground particularly through the off side and continues her rich vein of form  scoring her 3rd 100 in 4th international innings but the day belonged to the young 20 year old Shafali Verma.

Shafali has had ups and downs in other formats but has looked in commanding form whenever she played test  cricket . On this day she looked very well balanced in her strokeplay and launched a fierce assault on the Proteas after lunch . Her shots down the ground were absolutely awesome as the Protea bowling attack had no answer to Shafali's batting prowess .

Among  the rest Jemima Rodrigues (55) , Harmanpreet (42*) & Richa Ghosh (43*) took full toll on a tired & depleted South African bowling attack as India has reached a position of strength on day one.
