T20IWC: Arshdeep , Surya powers India to a hard earned 7 wkt win over gallant USA
India s much awaited game vs USA at New York ended in a hard earned win for the visitors .
Suryakumar Yadav's unbeaten half-century and Arshdeep Singh's career-best bowling figures of 4-9 led India to a seven-wicket victory over the United States in their Group A match at the T20 World Cup on Wednesday. This win secured India's place in the Super Eights round.
Chasing a modest target of 111, India faced early challenges, stumbling to 15-2 and then 44-3. However, Yadav (50) and Shivam Dube (31) stabilized the innings with an unbroken 67-run partnership for the fourth wicket, securing victory with 10 balls remaining.
Despite the loss, the United States is still in a strong position to advance to the Super Eights alongside India, holding four points, while Pakistan and Canada each have two points.
India's top order struggled against Mumbai-born fast bowler Saurabh Netravalkar, who dismissed Virat Kohli for a golden duck to an outswinger and claimed Rohit Sharma's wicket. Rishabh Pant's brief 18-run innings ended when Ali Khan bowled him.
India would have been in a worse situation had it not been for an easy dropped catch off Surya Kumar Yadav early in his innings . India crawled to 47/3 at 10 over mark with both Surya and Dube struggling to time the ball on a pitch aiding the bowlers .
It was a array of aggressive shots by both Surya and Shivam Dube around the 16th to 17th over that finally sealed the match in India's favour .
Earlier, the United States had a disastrous start, losing two wickets to Arshdeep Singh in the first over, leaving them at 3-2. Captain Aaron Jones, who scored an unbeaten 94 against Canada, managed only 11 runs before falling to Hardik Pandya. Steven Taylor (24) and Nitish Kumar (27) added 31 runs for the fourth wicket, but Kumar was brilliantly caught by Mohammed Siraj off Arshdeep's bowling. Former New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson scored 15 before being caught by Pant off Pandya, who bowled a wicket-maiden.
The United States managed to cross the 100-run mark thanks to contributions from Shadley van Schalkwyk (11) and Jasdeep Singh (2).
India now joins Australia and South Africa as the three teams to have secured their places in the next stage of the tournament.
