Euro24 : Germany overcome stiff Denmark resistance & thunder to move to quarters

Germany reached the quarter-finals of the Euro Cup.  They beat  Denmark 2-0 in Dortmund on Saturday.  In the first half of the match, the game was stopped for about 25 minutes due to excessive lightning.  In the end, they won with the help of two goals scored in the second half.

A German goal was disallowed four minutes into the match.  Nico Schlatterbeck scored from a set piece.  But it was ruled out for offside.  Germany kept Denmark under pressure from the start.  In the 11th minute, Kai Havertz's shot was saved by Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.  Christian Eriksen's shot was saved by Antonio Rudiger despite Denmark getting a chance in the 21st minute.

At 34 minutes, the English referee Michael Oliver decided to stop the game.  It was raining heavily with lightning.  At first the players waited in the tunnel but after a while returned to the dressing room.  Schmeichel saved an effort from Havertz early in the match.

Denmark's Joachim Andersen had a goal disallowed for offside in the second half.  Germany got a penalty in the 50th minute off that counterattack preceeding the Denmark dissallowed goal.  David Raum's cross was met by Andersen.   Havertz scored from the penalty.  Jamal Musiala made it 2-0 in the 68th minute.  He scored off another counter attack to seal the deal for the Germans.
