Euro24 : Austria power to 3-1 win over Poland in a high voltage match
Austria defeated Poland 3-1 in the Euro Cup on Friday to secure their place in Group D. Despite narrowly losing to France in the previous match, Austria put up a great show in defeating Poland today. They came second in the group.
Austria put Poland under pressure from the beginning of the day. One cross after another was floating in the opponent's box. They went ahead in 9 minutes. Long throw by Filippo Moyne. Poland's defenders blocked it, but the cross went into the box again. Austrian defender Gernot Trauner curled the ball into the net with a perfect header.
Austria stepped up their attack with a goal. Poland did not concede a goal courtesy of goalkeeper Vojciech Sejny. He blocked shots from Christoph Baumgartner and Marko Arntovic. After that, Poland equalized. Austria's defenders could not clear the ball during the attack. Poland striker Kristof Piatek scored with a rasping shot from six yards.
Austria continued to attack despite the conceded goal. Control of the ball was at their feet. No further goals in the first half. Austria went ahead in the second half. Baumgartner scored in the 67th minute. Alexander Pras passed from the left wing. Baumgartner scored in space in the box. Poland could have equalized two minutes later. Karol Swiderski's shot is somehow saved by the Austria goalkeeper.
Austria scored the third goal in the 78th minute. Marcel Savitzer found Sejani alone after receiving a long pass. But Sejani tripped Savitzer into the box. Arntovich scored from the penalty. (3-1)
