Euro24: Georgia stun Portugal to reach next round ,Turkey beat Czechia in fiery match

Georgia stunned Portugal 2-0 in Gelsenkirchen, securing qualification to the knockout stages of the European Championship in their first ever major tournament.

Napoli's Kvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring just 93 seconds into the match after a sloppy pass from Antonio Silva gifted Georges Mikautadze the ball in a dangerous position.

Mikautadze doubled Georgia's lead in the second half, scoring his third goal of the tournament from the penalty spot after Silva brought down Luca Lochoshvili.

Despite the loss, Portugal's coach Roberto Martinez is not overly concerned, having made eight changes to the side that beat Turkey 3-0. Portugal had already secured the top spot in Group F.

Willy Sagnol's Georgian team advances as one of the best third-placed teams and will now face Spain in the round of 16, while Portugal will take on Slovenia.

Turkey beat Czech

In another match, Turkey held off a spirited comeback from the Czech Republic, scoring a late winner to secure a 2-1 victory on Wednesday. This win confirmed their second place in Euro 2024 Group F and booked a last-16 clash with Austria.

The Czechs needed a win to have any chance of advancing, but the 20th-minute dismissal of attacking midfielder Antonin Barak hindered their plans. Turkey captain Hakan Calhanoglu's 50th-minute strike further dented their hopes, though Tomas Soucek's equalizer 16 minutes later offered some hope.

However, Turkey clinched victory with a stoppage-time strike from Cenk Tosun.
