Euro24: Portugal demolish Turkeya 3-0 & move to last 16, Georgia draw with Czechia

Portugal clinched a 3-0 victory over Turkey to advance to the Euro 2024 round of 16 as Group F winners at the BVB Stadion Dortmund on Saturday.

Roberto Martinez’s squad took the lead in the 21st minute when Bernardo Silva scored from close range following a cutback from Rafael Leao on the left.

The second goal came in unusual circumstances. Samet Akaydin's casual back-pass to goalkeeper Altay Bayindir went awry, as a miscommunication caused the ball to roll into the net. Despite desperate efforts from Zeki Celic and Bayindir to save it, they were unsuccessful.

Portugal sealed the win in the 55th minute with a third goal, thanks to a combination between Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes. Ronaldo received an over-the-top pass, found himself one-on-one with the keeper, and unselfishly passed to Fernandes, who tapped it into the empty net.

This victory makes Portugal the third team, after Germany and Spain, to secure a place in the round of 16.

Georgia share points with Czechia

Georgia  missed a crucial opportunity  with the last kick of the game, as the debutants earned their first-ever point in a major tournament with a 1-1 draw against the Czechia

Georgia, the tournament's lowest-ranked team, took the lead in first-half stoppage time when striker Georges Mikautadze converted a penalty.

Although Georgia led, the Czechia controlled the game and eventually equalized through Patrik Schick, who scored after substitute Ondrej Lingr hit the post.

Schick later left the field injured, while Georgia's goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili made multiple saves to preserve the draw.

In the final moments, Lobjanidze failed to capitalize on a three-on-one break.

The result means both teams still have a chance to progress to the last 16 as they head into their final Group F matches on Wednesday.
