T20IWC : Rutherford , bowlers script sensational West Indies win over New Zealand

The 26th match was played between New Zealand and West Indies on 13 June in the T20 World Cup. In this match, West Indies defeated New Zealand by 13 runs. With this, West Indies has also qualified for the Super-8. West Indies, who came to bat first, did not have a good start. Half the team returned to the pavilion at the score of 30 due to some extravagant strokeplay with top players King , Pooran (17)  , Powell (1) getting out cheaply Later too they lost wickets at 58 & 76 and was tottering at 76/7 but thanks to Sherfan Rutherford's explosive innings, the West Indies team managed to set a decent target of 150 runs. In response, the New Zealand team could only score 136 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. New Zealand has lost two consecutive matches under the captaincy of Kane Williamson and after this defeat, the team is in danger of being eliminated from the group stage itself.

This match was very important for New Zealand against West Indies, because in the first match it was badly defeated by Afghanistan. Williamson's team forgot that defeat in Trinidad and tried to make a new beginning. Trent Boult gave a shock to West Indies in the very first over clean bowling Johnson Charles . After this, wickets kept falling one after the other as the Windies batters kept playing explosive shots & were losing their wickets. They lost 8 wickets before crossing the 100 mark with Akeal Hosein(15) and Russell (14) doing no more than playing short cameos . In the 17th over, West Indies' score was only 103 for the loss of 8 wickets. After this, Rutherford started smashing explosive sixes. By the end of the innings, he scored a brilliant 68 runs in 39 balls by hitting 6 sixes and 2 fours. With this innings, West Indies managed to score 149 runs and the match turned around.

Despite scoring 150 runs, the target could have been chased but after batting, the West Indies team defeated New Zealand with the ball as well. Spinner Akeel Hussain gave the first blow to the Kiwi team with Conway wicket. Allen (26) knock was cut short by Alzarri Joseph. After this, Gudakesh Moti and Alzari Joseph demolished the New Zealand team in the powerplay. Joseph took 4 wickets for 19 runs in 4 overs including the wicket of Glenn Phillips (40) who was threatening to win it for New Zealand  . Moti gave 25 runs in 4 overs and took 3 wickets including the crucial ones of Williamson (1) & Mitchell (12) . This completely broke the back of New Zealand. In the end, Mitchell Santner (21*)  tried a bit by hitting 3 sixes but he could not make the team win.

New Zealand is in Group C of the T20 World Cup. On one hand, West Indies has qualified for the Super-8 from this group. On the other hand, New Zealand is in danger of being eliminated from the group stage itself. Mathematically, New Zealand can still go to the Super-8. On the other hand, if we look at the Net Run Rate (NRR) and the form of Afghanistan, then New Zealand's elimination is almost certain.  Afghanistan's NRR is +5.225, while New Zealand's is -2.425. New Zealand will now have to win both the remaining matches by a big margin and also hope that Afghanistan loses by a big margin.
