Euro24 : Spain outplay Italy to qualify for 2nd stage

Spain secured a Group B victory, enhancing their record to 4-0 against defending champions at the Euros. This win makes Spain the second team to advance to the knockout stage, alongside tournament host Germany.

Spain's relentless pressure overwhelmed Italy, culminating in an own goal that secured a 1-0 win for the Spaniards in one of European soccer's most storied rivalries.

Although the match lacked elegance, it was a crucial result for Spain's Euro 2024 campaign, celebrated by King Felipe VI of Spain.

Spain dominated the first half with 10 shots, four on target, while Italy managed only two shots, neither on goal. Despite their efforts, Spain couldn't initially find the net.

The breakthrough came when Riccardo Calafiori's clearance attempt resulted in an own goal, the first in a Spain-Italy match since 1970.

Nico Williams nearly doubled Spain's lead with a spectacular strike that hit the post.

Italy struggled to penetrate the Spanish defense, creating few opportunities. The Italian goalkeeper made eight saves, proving to be a key player for his team.

Overall, Spain dominated the game and deserved a better scoreline than 1-0.
