T20IWC : Stoinis power Aus to win over spirited Oman , Uganda gets 1st win in WC

Australia began their T20 World Cup campaign with a convincing victory over Oman in Barbados, despite an early setback, while Uganda secured their first T20 World Cup win against Papua New Guinea.

After Oman won the toss, Australia, the ODI World Cup champions, batted first. Oman made an impressive start by dismissing Travis Head (12) and captain Mitch Marsh (14). Mehran Khan then took the wicket of Glenn Maxwell with the very next ball, narrowly missing a hat-trick. However, David Warner (56) and a belligerent Marcus Stoinis (67 not out) formed a strong partnership, guiding Australia to a total of 164-5 in their 20 overs.  Stoinis with his colossal shots helped Australia to reach a decent score .

In response, Oman faced a formidable Australian bowling attack, with Mitchell Starc taking a wicket in the first over. Despite this, Oman managed to score a respectable 125-9, with Ayan Khan top-scoring with 36.

Australia will play against England in their next match in Barbados on Saturday at 6 pm, while Oman will face Scotland in Antigua on Sunday, also at 6 pm.

In Guyana, Uganda recorded their first T20 World Cup win in a low-scoring match against Papua New Guinea. Papua New Guinea struggled from the start, with their first three batters scoring a combined total of just six runs. The situation did not improve much, with all of Uganda's bowlers taking wickets. Hiri Hiri was the top scorer for Papua New Guinea with 15 runs, and the team was all out for 77 after 19 overs.

Uganda also faced difficulties while batting, with only two players scoring more than 10 runs. Riazat Ali Shah emerged as the hero, scoring 33 to anchor the innings. Uganda reached the target in 18 overs with three wickets in hand.

Uganda will play against the West Indies next, while Papua New Guinea will take on Afghanistan.
