Copa24 : Argentina without Messi beat Peru 2-0 & cruise to next round with 3 wins

Argentina also won the last match of the group in the Copa America.  Argentina without Lionel Messi beat  Peru 2-0.  After a goalless first half, Lautaro Martinez scored twice for the world champions in the second half.

Messi did not play against Peru due to injury.  Argentina's captain did not score in the first two matches.  This is the first time he could not score in the group stage of any competition.

Messi's absence on the field, however, could not cause problems for Argentina.  Instead, Peru was under pressure from the start against Messi-less Argentina.  Peru's goalkeeper Gallis can be called the hero of the first half.  At least four times he prevented the sure fall of the team.   Di Maria & Co started aggressive football from the beginning.  Argentina's footballers kept Peru's defense busy with one attack after another.  The world champions got the chance to score the first goal in 12 minutes.  Otamendi had an easy chance to score from Di Maria's corner.  His shot goes wide.  Most of the time was played in Peru's half.  Almost all of Peru's footballers were busy defending.

In the 22nd minute, Lautaro Martinez received the ball in Peru's box from Di Maria.  Gallis blocked his shot.  However, Argentina would not have scored a goal.  Mexico's referee said Martinez was offside.  Gallis disappointed Argentina once again in the 26th minute.  He blocked Paredes' shot.  In the 44th minute, another attempt by Argentina was thwarted by the goalkeeper of Peru.  Montiel received the ball from Di Maria on the right side of the Peru box.  He passes to Lo Celso.  Gallis blocked his shot.  Garnacho's shot from the return ball went over the bar.

Despite not getting a goal, the possession of the ball was basically kept by the Argentine footballers.  After a goalless first half, Lionel Scaloni's men stepped up their attack from the start of the second half at Florida's Hard Rock Stadium.  They got his result in 47 minutes.  Martínez put the team ahead after receiving the ball from De Maria.  Argentina got a penalty in the 70th minute when a Peruvian footballer handballed in the box.  But Paredes could not use the opportunity.  Argentina had to wait until 86 minutes for the second goal.  Martinez scored the team's second goal and his own.  He scored four goals in the competition.  No more goals were scored in the match.  Argentina reached the second round after winning all three group matches.
