T20IWC : Australia outplay Bangladesh in rain curtailed match after Cummins hattrick

 



Favourites Australia put on another strong display to outplay Bangladesh in their 1st group match of  super8  beating them by 28 runs on Duckworth Lewis method . Pat Cummins  scripted a hattrick in the biggest incident of the match. 



Pat Cummins scored a hat trick against Bangladesh.  The Australian pacer scored the first hat-trick of the T20 World Cup this time.  He was rested in the last match.  Cummins showed his class in the Super 8 match.


 Cummins dismissed Mahmudullah and Mehdi Hasan in the last two balls of the 18th over.  After that, he took Hriday's wicket on the first ball of the 20th over.  Before Cummins, six bowlers had taken hat-tricks in T20 World Cups.  The Australian pacer became the seventh bowler to take a hat-trick in the T20 World Cup.  Cummins is only the second Australian after Brett Lee to achieve this feat in a T20 World Cup.  Note that Lee's hat trick was also against Bangladesh.


 Cummins took three wickets for 29 runs in 4 overs in the match.  Bangladesh's innings ended with 140 runs.  Spinner Adam Zampa took two wickets.  Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell took one wicket each.  Apart from skipper Nazmul Hossain Shanto (41) and Tohid Hriday (40), no one could score  many runs for Bangladesh.


With a target of 141 runs in mind, Australia showed power from the start.  They plundered 64 runs in 6.2 overs before the first stoppage of play due to rain.  Australia has not lost a wicket till then.  The two openers at the crease were David Warner (32) and Travis Head (31).


 After the rain stopped, the match started.  Head (31) and Mitchell Marsh (1) were dismissed.  Bangladesh was trying to get back into the match.  But Warner and Glenn Maxwell did not let that happen.  They were scoring quickly.  Play was stopped again in 11.2 overs due to rain.  After that it was not possible to start the game.  At that time Australia scored 100 runs.  Australia won the match by duck-worth Lewis Method by 28 runs.
