T20IWC : South Africa survive major scare from Nepal , Kiwis thump Uganda

South Africa narrowly escaped an upset by Nepal, securing a nerve-wracking one-run victory in their final Group D match of the T20 World Cup at Arnos Vale Stadium in St Vincent on Friday.

Chasing a modest target of 116, Nepal needed eight runs in the final over but fell short, ending at 114 for seven. A six off Nortje in the 19th over brought the equation very close and then there was a 4 in the middle of  Baartman's & game's last over . With 2 to win off the final ball Gulshan Jha was run out on the last ball attempting a single off Ottneil Baartman to force a super over.

Earlier, South Africa, batting first, were restricted to 115 for seven by leg-break bowler Kushal Bhurtel and off-spinner Dipendra Singh Airee. Aasif Sheikh and Anil Sah's 50-run partnership for the third wicket brought Nepal close to a stunning victory that would have kept their Super Eight hopes alive.

Aasif Sheikh, who was dropped on one in the second over by Kagiso Rabada, survived an early threat from Tabraiz Shamsi. However, Shamsi returned in the 18th over to claim both Sah and Sheikh who finally fell for a gallant 42 , finishing with impressive figures of four for 19. Anrich Nortje then bowled Kushal Malla in the 19th over, shifting the balance back in South Africa's favor in the tense final moments.

Sandeep Lamichhane, who missed the first two matches due to visa issues, went wicketless in his four overs but boosted his team’s morale. Nepal's captain, Rohit Paudel, won the toss and elected to field, putting immediate pressure on the Proteas.

Despite being assured of a place in the Super Eight, South Africa struggled against Nepal’s bowlers. Opener Reeza Hendricks top-scored with 43 off 49 balls, providing some stability. A late surge by Tristan Stubbs, who hit a quick 27, added valuable runs before Bhurtel ended the innings by dismissing Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada on consecutive balls. Shamsi was the player of the match for his 4 wickets .

In the other match of the night , New Zealand who were already out of contention registered a consolation big win over Uganda . The Kiwi quicks Boult (2 wickets) , Southee (3 wickets) , Ferguson (1 wicket) and spinner Santner (2 wickets ) ran riot as Uganda batters lacked the skill to combat such high level bowling . Uganda fell like nine pins to be 40 all out and the Kiwis romped home within the powerplay to win by 9 wickets and Conway finishing at 22 not out
