Euro24 : Germany escapes with last minute equaliser vs Switzerland, Hungary last minute goal breaks Scottish hearts

2 late goals were the highlights of the final two group A clashes as Germany escapes defeat with a  last minute equaliser & Hungary broke Scottish hearts with a last second winner.

**Germany Secures Group A Top Spot with Late Equalizer Against Switzerland at Euro 2024**

Germany salvaged a 1-1 draw against Switzerland in Euro 2024 thanks to Niclas Fullkrug's stoppage-time goal, securing the top position in Group A for the hosts.

Dan Ndoye of Bologna appeared to score the match-winner for Switzerland with a stunning volley past Manuel Neuer from Remo Freuler’s exquisite first-half cross.

Despite Switzerland's robust defense, Germany persisted and equalized in the 92nd minute. Substitute David Raum's cross found Fullkrug, who headed the ball past Yann Sommer.

With this draw, Germany tops Group A and will face the runner-up from England’s group in the last 16. Switzerland will play against the second-placed team from Group B, which could be Albania, Italy, or Croatia.

In the match at Frankfurt’s Waldstadion, Germany dominated possession, but Switzerland posed a continuous threat on the counter-attack, with key contributions from Ndoye, Breel Embolo, and substitute Ruben Vargas.

Germany had several near-misses, including a header from Kai Havertz that hit the crossbar and efforts from Leroy Sane, before Fullkrug's goal secured the draw and ensured Germany edged Switzerland for the group's top spot.

**Hungary Defeats Scotland with Dramatic Last-Minute Goal**

Hungary's stoppage-time goal sealed a 1-0 victory over Scotland at Euro 2024, ending Scotland's dreams of reaching the knockout stages for the first time.

Kevin Csoboth, a late substitute, scored his first international goal in the 110th minute, placing Hungary third in Group A, behind Germany and Switzerland.

Hungary now anxiously awaits confirmation of whether their three points will be enough to progress to the round of 16 as one of the four best third-place teams, which will be determined after the final round of group games on Wednesday.

Scotland, finishing last in the group with one point from a draw against Switzerland, has been eliminated. They suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat to Germany in their Euro 2024 opener.

Despite controlling possession, Scotland struggled to penetrate Hungary’s defense. Both goalkeepers made crucial saves in a chaotic stoppage time before Csoboth's decisive goal. He started the counterattack, connected with an unmarked Roland Sallai, and finished with a near-post shot, sparking wild celebrations among Hungary's players and fans.

The match was marred by a serious injury to Hungary’s Barnabas Varga. The 29-year-old striker was hospitalized in stable condition after a collision with Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn. Varga's head struck Gunn's trailing arm as the goalkeeper punched the ball away. Medics quickly brought a stretcher onto the field, and Varga was carried off as his teammates urged for faster assistance.
