India win a double super over thriller in 3rd T20I vs Afghanistan after Rohit heroics




With the T20I series already decided , India and Afghanistan played a sensational & thrilling game of T20I cricket at Bangalore and the high scoring encounter was bitterly fought till the end after a eventful game that had several fortune swings . Rohit Sharma played one of his best T20I knocks and was almost dragging the game towards India with some help from Rinku Singh  and at the end Ravi Bishnoi.  Finally India needed two super overs to get past a determined and stubborn  Afghanistan  !!

Batting first on winning the toss India was jolted early as they lost 4/22 within powerplay  . Left arm quick Fareed Ahmed got Jaiswal (4) , Kohli (0) and Samson (0) as all three got out to ill timed pull shots . Kohli and Samson got golden ducks.  Shivam Dube (1) , hero of last two games , was caught behind off Azmatullah . It fell on Rohit and Rinku to resurrect the innings which they did in fine style , biding their time early on and then Rohit gradually unfurling his wide range of shots as he moved to top gear after reaching 40 . Pulls and lofted shots for 4s and 6s flowed thick and fast and even Rinku started to get back his flow as runs flowed at great speed . 

In last five overs Rohit plundered boundaries at will to race to his 5th T20I hundred which is highest by any player . Rinku went for big shots and reached his fifty and in the last over he hit the last 3 balls of Indian inings for 3 sixes to take the score to 212/4 . In the process Rohit ( 121 not out in 69 balls , 11- 4s , 8- 6s ) and Rinku (69 not out off 39 balls , 2 4s & 3  6s) added 190 unbeaten runs for the 4th wicket in dazzling fashion . 

Afghanistan started well as Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran batted superbly . Gurbaz in particular looked in great touch as he scored 50 off 32 balls while Zadran compiled a more sedate 50 in 41 balls as they added 93 in over 10 overs . Finally Gurbaz (50) fell to a fine catch in the covers  by Washington Sundar off Kuldeep . Zadran (50) followed soon stumped by Samson off Sundar . Omerzai (0)went to Sundar too but Afghanistan built through Naib and Nabi who added a breezy 56 in just 4 overs . After Nabi (34) was out to Sundar it was Gulbadin Naib who plundered 4s and 6s to score a rapid 55 off 23 balls to torment India and just managed to tie the game at 212 /6 in 20 overs to push it into a super over  . Sundar bowled superbly to get 3/18.

Afghanistan batted first in the first super over and scored 16 after losing a wicket early to Mukesh Kumar while India opened with Rohit and Jaiswal  . Jaiswal could not  connect but Rohit hit 6s and then lost strike but in a quick thinking got himself retired out to sent in Rinku  ( as he is a better runner ) while Jaiswal took strike. However Jaiswal could take only 1 run to tie and the game went into the next super-over. 

This time India batted first and Rohit hit 6,4 to reach 11 but Rinku was out for 0 and Rohit was run out . This time Bishnoi bowled for India with Afghanistan needing 12 , Bishnoi dismissed Nabi and Gurbaz in quick succession to catches by  Rinku Singh as Afghanistan finally lost the game in the super over after a valiant fight .

Rohit for his outstanding knock was the player of the match while Shivam Dube (124 runs and 2 wkts ) was the player of the series as India won the 3 match series 3-0 .
