Australia need 156 with 8 wickets in hand to beat West Indies in 2nd test

Australia  has taken steps towards victory in the day & night second test match against West Indies.  Chasing the target of 216 runs to win in this match being played with pink ball, Australia scored 60 runs by the end of the third day's play after losing the wickets of Usman Khawaja (10) and Marnus Labuschagne (5).  The team needs 156 more runs to sweep the domestic season with eight wickets remaining.

Australia had defeated Pakistan 3-0 in the current home season, while in the opening match of the two-match series, it had defeated West Indies by 10 wickets in three days.  West Indies missed several opportunities to extend their lead beyond 215 runs.  The team was out for 193 runs in the last session of the day.  The team's number 11 batsman Shamar Joseph had to retire hurt.

Joseph's  right toe was injured by Mitchell Starc's fast yorker.  He was declared LBW on this yorker, but in the replay it was seen that the bowler had 'over-stepped' which made it a 'no ball'.  Josh Hazlewood (three wickets for 23 runs) and Nathan Lyon (three wickets for 42 runs) made it difficult for the West Indies batsmen in the second innings.

Starc and Cameron Green also took one wicket each.  Shamar Joseph appeared to be in a lot of pain while leaving the field and may not be able to bowl in the remaining Test match.  Alzarri Joseph gave West Indies early success by dismissing Khawaja (10) , who was recently named the Test Player of the Year at the ICC Awards.  After this, Justin Greaves stunned Labuschagne with a brilliant ball which he edged and Kevin Sinclair, standing at second slip, took a brilliant catch.

Smith, who is yet to make an impact in his new role as an opening batsman after the retirement of David Warner, faced the bowlers bravely and is present at the crease along with Green (nine runs). Smith (33*) played some sparkling drives , cuts and pulls .  Earlier, West Indies batsmen lost wickets due to ering choice of shots  after some fighting moments .  During this period, Australian fielders took some amazing catches.

The West Indies team was moving towards a big score with 148 runs for four wickets but Travis Head, gave Australia a comeback in the run-out match by Kavem Hodge (29 runs).  Kirk McKenzie (41) and Alek Athanase (35) failed to convert good starts into big innings.  Both became Lyon's victims on either side of the first two seasons.

It's the lack of experience that has hampered the West Indies batters from getting big scores which Australia took full advantage in the second innings . However West indies is still in the game but they will require wickets at regular intervals to force a series levelling win .
