Australia bounce back from 27/4 v WI with Khawaja , Carey & Cummins scripting recovery

The 2nd day of Australia vs West Indies 2nd test at Brisbane turned out to be a riveting days play . After extending their 1st innings to 311 , West Indies had Australia on the ropes at 27/4 & then 54/5  but the brilliance of Khawaja , Carey and finally Pat Cummins brought Australia back in the game and they even declared 22 runs behind to get late West Indies wickets  under lights and managed one in the last over of the day .

Cummins declared the first innings behind West Indies by 22 runs.  The aim is to bring the tired West Indies cricketers into bat late on the second day of the day-night Test.  The plan worked.  The Caribbean fielding all day had to play the last 8 overs of the day.  Jos Hazlewood took the wicket of young opener Tyaganarayan Chandrapaul (4).  West Indies captain Craig Braithwaite (3) is unbeaten on 22 yards at the end of the day but was dropped by Smith .  The visitors' second innings runs are 13 for 1.  The Windies are 35 runs ahead of the hosts with 9 wickets in hand.  Three days left to play.

Earlier, in response to West Indies' 311 runs in the first innings, Australia declared 289 runs for 9 wickets.  Cummins' team, however, were under pressure early in the day.  The world champions were  5 down   for 54 runs.  Steve Smith (6), Marnus Labuschagne (3), Cameron Green (8), Tavis Head (nil), Michell Marsh (21) got out in succession.

However  wicketkeeper Alec Carey joined forces with stubborn  opener Usman Khwaja for the sixth wicket.  Their pair of 94 runs brought Australia back into the fight.  Khawaja played another resilient  innings of 75 runs keeping one end going .  He arranged his innings with the help of 10 fours.  A fighting 65 runs from Carey's bat as he drove , cut , flicked & swept with aplomb in his sparkling knock .  He tried to put West Indies under counter pressure by batting aggressively.  His innings of 49 balls has 9 fours and 1 six.  After that, Cummins' unbeaten 64 at number nine put Australia in a fighting position. Cummins batted aggressively as he drove and sliced 4s through the off side .  Nathan Lion scored 19 quick  runs but no one thought that the declaration will come suddenly.   West Indies' most successful bowler Alzzari Joseph took 4 wickets for 84 runs.  3 wickets for 47 runs was taken by  Kemar Roach.  Shamar Joseph and Kevin Sinclair took 1 wicket each. The West Indies firlding and bowling was very good but Carey , Khawaja and Cummins played superbly to bring Australia back in the game from a very tricky situation  .

At the end of the first day of the Pink Test, West Indies were 266 for 8.  Sinclair was unbeaten on 16 runs.  He ended up scoring a fine  50 runs.   played an important innings of 32 runs. West Indies managed to increase their first innings to 311
