Aus Open tennis 2024 : Top players mostly advance , no dearth of thrills

 

The seasons first grand slam tennis event is on in it's full glory . The Australian Open 2024 at Melbourne has reached its 5th day and there have been events galore  as well as a few upsets . The latest in the list has been the thriller between 3rd seed  Elena Rybakina and Anna Blinkova . Rybakina made her exit in a sensational result after a sensational match . After both players split the first two sets 6-4 , the decider 3rd set was an absolute thriller and it went into a sensational tie breaker in which both players missed numerous match points in a nervy tussle and finally Blinkova won 22-20 in a sensational tiebreak to hand a heartbreaking defeat to the favourite Rybakina  .


2021 US open champ Emma Raducanu suffered another heartbreak in a grand slam while Iga Swaitek got over a 2nd set loss to beat Collins in 3 sets after a scare.  


In the mens draw 3rd seed Daniil Medvedev survived a tough 5 setter examination as he came back from 2 set deficit to beat Rusuovori in 5 sets while Holger Rune crashed out of the tournament . Felix Agar Alliassime, Korda , Rublev , Dimitrov all won their respective matches while Zverev survived a gruelling 5 setter scare to move to the next round .


The top two seeds Alcaraz & Djokovic both won their 1st 2 rounds . While Alcaraz was extended to 4 sets in his 2nd round match , Djokovic had two extremely tough matches  against young opponents to move to the 3rd round . In the 1st round Djokovic survived a 4 set challenge from talented Prizmic while in the 2nd round he had to raise his level for another 4 set win over Popyrin of Australia. 


As the tournament gets tougher we expect more thrills in coming days .
