Brown , Johnson powers Heat to beat Sixers for 2nd BBL title
Australian fast bowler Spencer Johnson, who received a high bid in the Indian Premier League auction, has made one of his teams champions even before coming to India. In the 13th season of Australia's Big Bash League, Spencer Johnson has made his team Brisbane Heat the champion on the basis of his tremendous bowling. In the final played at Sydney Cricket Ground, Brisbane won the title for the second time by defeating Sydney Sixers by 54 runs at Sydney. With this, their wait which had been going on for the last 11 years also ended.
Brisbane was waiting for its second title for a long time but after becoming champion in 2012-13, the team could not even reach the finals. Last season they had this opportunity but then Perth Scorchers defeated them. This time Brisbane did not make the mistake of last season and won the title.
Brisbane, captained by Nathan McSweeney, batted first in this final and scored 166 runs losing 8 wickets in 20 overs. In the very first over Sixers took the wicket of opener Jimmy Pearson. Nevertheless, Brisbane recovered from this setback and made a great comeback. Opener Josh Brown (53), who played an explosive innings of 140 runs against Adelaide Strikers in the Challenger match before the final, scored another half-century, while captain McSweeney (33) and Matt Renshaw (40) also played hard hitting innings. Sean Abbott took 4 wickets for Sydney.
In response, Sydney's innings seemed to be faltering in the beginning and could never recover. The pace pair of Spencer Johnson (4/26) and Michael Neeser destroyed Sydney's top order. Sydney's hopes were pinned on its experienced captain Moses Henriques (25). Henriques remained at the crease for a long time but wickets kept falling from the other side. Then Henriques also failed to score runs quickly. Johnson then destroyed the middle order as well and finally the entire innings collapsed at the score of just 112 in the 18th over and Brisbane ended its title drought.
