Aus W win T20I series after their 1st ever T20I loss to South Africa W

 


Australia women cricket team continued their winning ways but this time not without getting a jolt from South Africa women in the T20I leg of the multi format series . After winning the first T20I in style by 8 wickets , the hosts suffered a big jolt when South Africa women put on an inspiring performance to win the 2nd T20I by 6 wickets . However despite chasing a formidable total in the 3rd game , the Australia women showed their batting prowess to seal the series 2-1 .


In the 1st T20I at Manuka  oval Canberra , South Africa batting first put on a modest 147/6 with the help of several starts but it was only Tazmin Brits who hit 59 . Darcie Brown and Perry both took 2 wickets . In reply the openers Beth Mooney and Alyssa Healy put on 72 for the first wicket . Healy departed for belligerent 46 off 28 balls but Mooney (72* of 57 balls) looked in vintage touch and with the help of McGrath (24*) closed out the win in style .



Aussies were expected to close out the series in the 2nd game but were stunned by the Proteas in style at Canberra .  Batting first Australia women could not quiet get their momentum going.  Healy (29) , Mooney (13) Perry (18) , McGrath (23) all struggled to get any fluency and it finally fell on Grace Harris (31 not out in 18 balls ) to give the innings some impetus as Australia ended at 142/6.


It was just the kind of total that South Africa and specially Laura Wolvaardt would fancy chasing and that exactly did happen as Wolvaardt played a stalibising knock of 58 not out while Tazmin Brits scored a belligerent 41 . Cameos from Kapp (20) & Bosch (11) helped to get South Africa fast the Australia score in 19 overs for a famous & historic  6 wicket win . 


However stung by the reverse Australia put on a strong batting display in the 3rd T20I to wrest the series . Batting first South Africa was buoyed by Marizzane Kapp who played a dazzling knock of 75 in just 48 balls in her 100th T20I . She was supported by cameos from Bosch (21) , Tryon (26) & Nadine D Clerk (20) as South Africa reached a challenging 162 /7 . However Beth Mooney showed her prowess again scoring a spectacular 82 off 55 balls even though regular  wickets fall at the other end . After Tahlia (16) got out , Gardner (26*) ensured with her belligerent hitting that Australia  cruises through in style by 5 wickets with 5 balls to go in the final game at Hobart . Australia women thus took the series 2-1 .
