Hazlewood (4/9) rattles Pak middle order as Aussies bounce back after batting collapse

The third and last match of the three-Test series between Australia and Pakistan is being played in Sydney.    Australia started on its second day score of 116/2.  However  entire team was bundled out for 299 runs in the first innings on Friday.  Pakistan had scored 313 runs in the first innings.  In this way the tourists  got a lead of 14 runs.  For Australia, Marnus Labuschagne scored 60 runs and Mitchell Marsh scored 54 runs in the first innings.  Aamir Jamal took six wickets for Pakistan.  In the second innings, Pakistan had scored 68 runs for seven wickets till the end of play on the third day.  Mohammad Rizwan (six runs) and Aamir Jamal  are unbeaten.  Pakistan has a lead of 82 runs but they now have only 3 wickets in hand .

Pakistan did not have a good start in the second innings.  Opener Abdullah Shafique and captain Shan Masood could not open the account.  Shafique was clean bowled on the last ball of Mitchell Starc in the first over by a great incutter .  After him, Shan Masood  was caught by wicketkeeper Alex Carey  off Josh Hazlewood.

After the fall of two wickets, Saim Ayub and Babar Azam made a partnership of 56 runs for the third wicket.  It seemed that both would play big innings but Nathan Lyon broke the partnership.  He had Ayub LBW.  He scored an impressive 33 runs on 53 balls.  Immediately after Ayub, Babar Azam also returned to the pavilion.  Azam scored 23 runs.  He was caught by Alex Carey off the ball of Travis Head trying to drive .  Saud Shakeel (2), Sajid Khan (0) and Agha Salman (0) were dismissed by Josh Hazlewood who bowled a hostile spell as the day drew to a close . Thus from a seeming position of strength  Pakistan collapsed to 68/7 and now have only a 82 run lead .

Earlier, both Australia's openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja were out on the second day.  Due to rain there was little play on the second day.  Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne were unbeaten.  Steve Smith was the first batsman to be out on the third day.  He was out after scoring 38 runs on 86 balls.  He hit three fours.  Smith was out to Mir Hamza caught at the hands of Babar Azam.  After him, Marnus Labuschagne returned to the pavilion.  He played a solid innings of 60 runs in 147 balls.  Labuschagne hit six fours in his innings.  He was clean bowled by Agha Salman off spinner through the gate .  Travis Head could not do anything special in this innings and after scoring 10 runs, he got LBW on the ball of Aamir Jamal.

Australia's score at one point in the first innings was 289/5 with Marsh and Carey batting fluently in a fruitful stand  . However   Alex Carey was out on this score.  He was bowled by Sajid Khan after scoring 38 runs.  After this the Australian innings collapsed.  Mitchell Marsh returned to the pavilion on the score of 293 runs.  He made another superb  54 runs with typical drives and cuts .  Marsh was out to  Aamir Jamal at midoff at the hands of Shan Masood.  Captain Pat Cummins (0) was out on this score.  Jamal had him LBW to a full toss .  After this the last two wickets were taken at the score of 299.  Jamal got Nathan Lyon (five runs) caught by Saud Shakeel.  After that Josh Hazlewood was sent to the pavilion.  He was caught by Agha Salman off Jamal without opening the account .

Jamal after scoring 82 in Pakistan 1st innings was took 6 wickets in Australia innings and was responsible for the late Aussie collapse.  However  Hazlewood 's late burst has put Australia in front in the test with 2 days to go .
