India squad announced for 1st 2 tests vs England, 4 spinners in team

Team India has been announced for the first two matches of the Test series against England.  The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced a 16-member squad for the first and second Test matches on Friday night, 12 January.  Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, most of the players are the same who were part of the squad on the South Africa tour.  At the same time, young wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan, who is out of the team, has not got a place in this squad either.  However, the selection committee has surprised everyone by giving a chance to Uttar Pradesh wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurail, who will be a part of Team India's dressing room for the first time.

The 5 test match series between India and England will start from January 25, which will continue till March 11.  However, in view of the long series, BCCI has currently announced the squad for the first and second Test only.  The first Test match will be played in Hyderabad from January 25, while the second Test will be played in Visakhapatnam from February 2.

The Senior Selection Committee has retained most of the players who played in the South Africa Test series.  However, tall fast bowler Prasidh Krishna and all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who made his debut in South Africa, have been dropped.  The performance of both was not as expected in South Africa.  Star fast bowler Mohammed Shami has not been selected because he is still not fully fit.  He is expected to join the third test.

At the same time, eyes were on whether Ishan Kishan would get a place?  The 25-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman had withdrawn his name from the Test squad during the South Africa tour last month.  Ishan had taken a break from the team citing mental fatigue.  After this he was not even selected for the T20 series against Afghanistan.  Despite this, it was expected that he might get a chance for the Test series but it did not happen and for the time being he will remain out of Team India.
However, coach Rahul Dravid said that there was no discipline issue with Ishan, he just did not make himself available.  Dravid had also said that Ishaan will return to the team but before that he will have to play domestic cricket and then make himself available for selection.  Now it is not clear whether Ishan has still kept himself away from selection or BCCI itself has not selected him.  No clarification has been given regarding this in the BCCI press release.  Ishan did not play for his team Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy match which started from Friday.
