Jaiswal , spinners put England on backfoot on day 1 of 1st test

There were questions about how much success England's 'bazzball' would have in India.  At the end of the first day's play, it was India who played Bazball  in Hyderabad.  Batting first, England scored 246 runs.  In reply, India scored 119 runs for the loss of one wicket at the end of the day with Jaiswal racing to an explosive 76 notout .

England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and elected to bat first.  Jaspreet Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj bowled the opening eight overs.  At that time England's two openers were scoring  about 5 runs per over though they were getting beaten at times . Both Crawley and Duckett played dazzling shots .However as soon as the spinners came to bowl,  English batters got rattled .

Ben Stokes has been playing attacking cricket ever since Brendon McCullum became England's Test team coach.  They also got success by playing Tests against New Zealand, Australia and Pakistan in this way.  But the experts doubted whether it was possible to play in this manner on Indian soil.  India stands for spin assisted pitches.  There is a danger of losing wickets if you play aggressively there.  And many of the English batsmen are not comfortable against spin.  In such a situation, England is under a lot of pressure in the first test.  Fans will be watching to see if Stokes can return to the match on the second day.

England's first innings ended with 246 runs.  Captain Ben Stokes kept England in the fight.  Stokes brought England close to 250 runs.  But India did not allow England's middle order to flower.

Stokes had already announced that England would play aggressive cricket.  That's how the two openers started.  They were taking about 5 runs per over.  Mohammad Siraj gave 28 runs alone in 4 overs.  Bumrah gave 12 runs in 4 overs.  They did not get any wickets.  England's two openers were just trying to take over the pace of the match.  At that time, the captain Rohit Sharma handed over the ball to the Indian spinners.  That's when the game changed.

Ashwin took England's first wicket.  Duckett (35) was left lbw not understanding his spin.  Ollie Pope (1) who came down to number three could not stay at the crease for long.  The English batsman was caught brilliantly by Rohit  off Jadeja.  In the next over Ashwin picked up the other opener Crawley (20).  England were suddenly reduced to 3 wickets for 60 runs without losing any wickets for 55 runs.

England lost 3 wickets in the first session.  Ravichandran Ashwin took 5 more wickets in the second session.  England lost 8 wickets and got under a lot of pressure. Root (29) and Bairstow (37) were looking to recover and both played some impressive shots but Bairstow was bowled by a beauty from Axar that spun away from the defensive bat and hit off stump

Stokes fought hard.  The English captain scored  70 runs and player some imperious shots taking on the spinners .  His wicket was taken by  Bumrah who bowled him with a lovely delivery that cut away from the left hander and hit the stumps .  England failed to play spin on Indian soil.  Apart from Stokes, none of the batsmen scored big runs.

Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin took three wickets each for India.  Bumrah and Akshar Patel took two wickets each.  In the third session, England tried to score runs quickly.  With no wicket in hand, it was Stokes who played the big shots.  But India took England's last 2 wickets before conceding  too many runs in the third session.

When India came out to bat  Yashaswi Jaiswal started the innings in explosive style .  He also hit the first ball of the second over for a six. Jaiswal scored a dazzling  76 runs off 70 balls.  The young opener hit nine fours and three sixes.  Jaiswal will come down with the goal of scoring a century on the second day.  He will be accompanied by Shubman Gill.  He is unbeaten on 14 runs.  Skipper Rohit got out after scoring 24 runs.  Rohit was  caught  while playing a big shot off Jack Leach.

At the end of the day, India trailed England by 127 runs and a very important day 2 awaits
