Cuisine : Pirozhki - how to prepare this Russian item

Pirozhki are Russian stuffed buns that can be baked or fried. Here's a basic recipe:

Ingredients:

- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

- 1 cup warm milk

- 1/4 cup sugar

- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

- 1/2 teaspoon salt

- 1/4 cup melted butter

- 2 eggs

Filling:

- Ground meat, mashed potatoes, cabbage, or any desired filling

Instructions:

1. Dissolve yeast in warm milk, add sugar, and let it sit until frothy.

2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center.

3. Pour yeast mixture, melted butter, and beaten eggs into the well. Mix until a dough forms.

4. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth. Place it in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for about 1-2 hours.

5. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) or heat oil for frying.

6. Divide the dough into small portions. Roll each portion into a circle.

7. Add your preferred filling to the center of each circle.

8. Fold the dough over the filling, sealing the edges.

9. For baking, place pirozhki on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

10. For frying, heat oil and fry until both sides are golden brown.

11. Serve warm and enjoy your pirozhki!

Feel free to experiment with different fillings to suit your taste.
