US Open 23 : Alcaraz storms into semis , to meet Medvedev, Sabalenka ,Keys advance

 



The Carlos Alcaraz juggernaut continues at the US Open 2023 . The 20 year old Spaniad put on another ruthless performance to beat German  Alexander Zverev in straight sets  6-3, 6-2 , 6-4 . Zverev who spend 15 hours at the court before this quarterfinal had his moments but could not capitalize any of his 5 break points he had during the match . After competing hard in set one , Zverev started to tire in the second set as Alcaraz stepped up a gear to go up by 2 sets . With his long earlier rounds taking a toll on him , Zverev took a medical break before the 3rd set and did compete hard against the ruthless Spaniard but Alcaraz stepped up his game when it mattered to get the timely break and cruise through to the semis with another emphatic performance. 


Earlier Daniil Medvedev was in full control of his bout against the dangerous Andrei Rublev . Both the Russians went hard at each other but Medvedev soon proved to be the stronger of the two , getting hold of the important points while Rublev faltered at crucial moments . After winning the first 2 sets 6-4 , 6-3 , Medvedev struggled physically in the extreme heat and had to be attended during the breaks between games . However he managed to bring his A game when it mattered as Rublev missed all his opportunities to come back in set 3 . Medvedev won the 3rd set 6-4 to move to the semis where he will be meeting Alcaraz in a mouth watering clash . Alcaraz leads 2-1 in head to head clashes with Medvedev .



Meanwhile Arnya Sabalenka demolished Q Zheng 6-1, 6-4 to move to the semis in the womens draw where she will meet American Madison Keys who beat the current Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 .  Coco Gauff and Muchova will contest in the other semi final .
