Asian Games 23 : Mixed results for India in football, womens cricket team moves to semis

 


India had mixed results in the Asian games arena . The Womens cricket team has moved to semis after their game vs Malaysia was washed off die to rain & India due to their higher seedings have moved to the semis, While Indian mens football team beat Bangladesh by a penalty goal in a hard earned win , the Women football team briefly raised hopes of an upset before losing to the Chinese Taipei 2-1 in a heartbreaking result . The Indian rowing teams have moved to the final round. 




The Indian womens team batted first vs Malaysia and piled up a massive 173/2 in a match reduced to 15 overs due to rain . Smriti Mandhana  scored 27 bright runs in 16 balls but Shafali Verma played superbly for her dazzling 67 in just 39 balls at included 5 sixes . Jemima Rodrigues scored a quickfire 47 not out and Richa Ghosh smashed 21 not out in just 7 balls to take India to 173/2 in 15 overs .  However no sooner the Malaysia started their reply , rains came which finally did not relent and the match was abandoned. 


Pakistan women's match was totally washed out vs Indonesia and Pakistan too went to next round courtesy higher ranking . 



In football  India played an  average game vs lower ranked  Bangladesh and also had a few anxious moments before winning by a solitary penalty goal late in the second half  courtesy veteran Sunil Chhetri .


However the Indian women footballers played a spirited game against their much higher ranked opponents Chinese Taipei . After a 0-0 tight first half , India scored very early in the second half courtesy Anju Tamang after a goal mouth scramble . However in the 65th minute Taipei scored a fabulous long ranger goal and added soon one more through a defensive lapse to take the lead . Finally Indian girls  went down 2-1 but showed great fighting qualities.

Red alert of more heavy rains in Maharashtra, closures announced in schools, colleges in some districts

  It is raining continuously in many districts of Maharashtra.  The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for 4 districts, expressing the possibility of heavy to very heavy rains in the state today i.e. on Thursday.  Keeping this in mind, a holiday has been declared today (July 27) for schools and colleges in Mumbai, Thane, Ratnagiri and Chandrapur districts.  Orange alert of rain has been issued in Raigarh district.  In such a situation, the district administration will take a decision on the basis of the situation with Raigad district.  On the other hand, July 27 has been declared a holiday for all government, private schools, all colleges, all ashram schools, business and training centers within Panvel Municipal Corporation limits.  The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai as well as Thane, Ratnagiri and Chandrapur.  In such a situation, keeping in view the possibility of heavy rains, school students of class I to 12 of all medium

Heavy rains totally disrupts train services in Mumbai area, CM orders early closure of Govt Offices

  Due to heavy rains in Maharashtra, the speed of Mumbai local has slowed down.  Many trains have been cancelled and diverted. Due to heavy rains in Thane district adjacent to Mumbai, the track changing point on the Kalyan-Kasara route was damaged, due to which train services on this route were stopped on Wednesday afternoon.  A senior railway official gave this information.  The Central Railway also informed that it has diverted some mail and express trains on Diva-Panvel-Karjat route and Daund-Manmad route, besides terminating some trains between Mumbai and Pune.   Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday ordered that the government offices in Mumbai and the neighboring region should be closed early.
