Death toll keeps rising as Morocco reels under heavy earthquake effect

 


After the massive  earthquake 24 hours ago , large areas of Morocco have lost electricity and internet.  Hundreds of people have been displaced.  When the situation will be normal, now that is the question of everyone.  Again, many people are looking for their loved ones in the rubble.  Morocco is in dire straits.


 At the beginning of this year, Türkiye and Syria witnessed terrible earthquakes.  It went down in history as the worst earthquake of the century.  After 6 months, the world witnessed a more terrible earthquake.  The death toll from the earthquake that hit Morocco on Friday night has exceeded two thousand.  About 300 people are hospitalized with serious injuries.  It has been mentioned as the worst earthquake in the country in 6 decades.


 Morocco's interior minister said that the earthquake caused the most damage outside the city.  However, the extent of the damage is still unclear.  But as the debris is being removed, more and more bodies are coming out.  As a result, it is feared that the number of dead may increase until the rescue operation is completed.

 According to the US Geological Survey, a tremor was felt in Morocco at 11:11 p.m. on Friday.  The magnitude of the quake was 6.8 on the Richter scale.  The epicenter of this earthquake was 72 kilometers away from the tourist center of Marrakesh.  Several aftershocks occur after an earthquake.


On the other hand, the local residents were terrified by the successive tremors.  Many came out of the house.  Many people sleep on the streets.  After today's earthquake, large areas of Morocco have lost electricity and internet.  Hundreds of people have been displaced.  When the situation will be normal, now that is the question of everyone.  Again, many people are looking for their loved ones in the rubble.  Overall, the dire situation in Morocco.

 Initially, 300 people were reported dead in this earthquake, but the death toll rose to 600 on Saturday evening.  Then at night the death toll reached thousands.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his condolences over the earthquake in Morocco.  Besides wishing speedy recovery to the injured and expressing his condolences to the families of the victims, Prime Minister Modi also conveyed the message of standing by Morocco at this difficult time.
