Ben Stokes roaring 100 helps England to annihilate New Zealand in 3rd ODI

 


England blew away  New Zealand by 181 runs in the 3rd ODI to take an unbeatable 2-1 lead in the 4 match series . Ben Stokes produced a masterclass and scored a dazzling 182 off 124 balls to script an emphatic England win over 2019 World cup finalists New Zealand .


Batting first England against lost 2 wickets in quick succession with Bairstow (0) caught at square leg of Boult's first ball and Root (4) played on to Boult trying to drive . However the early success was what New Zealand got as Ben Stokes and Dawid Malan got into a long partnership which grew and grew to assume large proportions.  They added 199 runs for the 3rd wicket. Malan was playing sublime shots and looked in great touch , driving , cutting, flicking with ease before he surprised everyone by missing his hundred being dismissed for 96 by Boult , getting a faint edge down legside . However Stokes who was striking the ball fiercely continued driving, cutting , pulling with disdain competing is 100 with ease to announce a great comeback to ODIs finally . He looked in imperious form as the runs flowed while Buttler played a cameo of 38 . Finally with 5 overs to go , Stokes was dismissed for 182 off 124 balls having hit 15 fours and 9 sixes . 


Later where was a flurry of wickets in trying to gi for big hits as England were all out for 368 with 11 balls remaining.  Boult took 5 wickets for the Kiwis , again showing his class .


New Zealand in reply never looked like chasing down the huge target as they kept losing early wickets . They had slipped to 70/5 before Glenn Phillips produced the only token resistance with an impressive 72  . However wickets kept tumbling and the Kiwis were all out for 187 to stumble to a crushing defeat . Woakes and Livingstone took 3 wickets and Topley took 2 wickets as England completed a big win . Stokes was obviously the player of the match .
