Asian Games 23 : India win gold in womens cricket , Shooters shine

India has won their opening two gold medals as they continue their medal hunt for Asian Games 2022 at Hangzhou . The shooting teams are making India proud while the women's cricket team won the Asian Games gold in their very first appearance in the event .

Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Divyansh Singh Panwar has not only clinched  the first gold medal today in the 10m Air Rifle men’s team event but had also set a new world record

Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar  won the  bronze in the men's 10m Air Rifle event. Meanwhile  Adarsh Singh, Anish Bhanwala and Vijayveer Sidhu won another bronze for the country in the Men's 25m Rapid Fire Pistol event.

Indian womens cricket team as per expectations won the gold in cricket beating Sri Lanka in a well contested final by 19 runs .

Batting first India lost Shafali Verma (9) early but Smriti Mandhana and Jemima Rodrigues  batted with great skill and common sense on a challenging pitch to create a great platform.  Smriti who just started to time her shots well finally got out for 46 trying for a big shot as India looked poised for a 140 score . However  Smriti's dismissal triggered a collapse of sorts as the new batters just could not get going in trying to go for big hits . Jemima (42) was  maneuvering the strike but even she could not get the big shots and after a promising foundation India struggled to reach 116/7 in the face of some inspiring  bowling by Sri Lanka.

To defend 116 , India needed to ensure that Sri Lanka captain and star batter Chamari Athapaththu did not get into a blistering start . Chamari did start well with a 6 & 4 but Anushka Sanjeewani (1) was dismissed cheaply as India found a new bowling hero in young Titas Sadhu . Titas next clean bowled Gunaratne (0) with a fine in cutter and then dismissed the dangerous Athapaththu (14)  as the batter tried to smash through the covers but was brilliantly caught by Deepti Sharma .

However  Parera and D Silva delayed India's march with a spirited batting display and just when they were getting the momentum Parera (25) was dismissed by Gayakwad . Ranasinghe (19) batted for long with D Silva (23) but once the latter was bowled by Pooja Vastrakar, India gradually worked their way towards the win and finally won  by 19 runs with Titas Sadhu taking 3/6 .

Earlier Bangladesh women won the cricket bronze by beating Pakistan by 5 wickets in a low scoring tight game surpassing Pakistan's score of 64/9 .

Thus with 2 golds now India has reached 11 medals with a break up of 2 gold  3 silver and 6 bronze till date .
