Rugby World cup 23 : England beat Japan to brighten QF hopes

Close on the heels of Fiji's historic win over the  Aussies , England had an unspectacular but and important win as they now look to seal their quarter final spot.

After beating Argentina in crucial first match . England registered a hard earned win over Japan 34-12 without really playing at their best in their 2nd group match of the Rugby World Cup 2023.

Japan were trailing by only 13-12 near the half time mark when Flyhalf George Ford's pass bounced off prop Will Stuart  backwards and luckily  ricocheted forwards off prop Joe Marler's mohawk into the waiting hands of skipper Courtney Lawes who walked  in between the posts to make the scoreline  20-12.

Japan tried to reduce the deficit soon after but were unsuccessful and then England consolidated their position with a better show in 2nd half . With full time looming large England delivered the bonus point with Jonny May , Joe Merchant duo finishing in style .

England will face Chile next and looks poised to reach the next round while Japan needs a good day vs Samoa as the World cup gradually hots up.
