Video : Neeraj Chopra finishes 2nd in latest Diamond league event in USA

India's superstar javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra finished second in the finals of the prestigious Diamond League.  He threw a distance of 83.80 meters in his second attempt during the tournament held in Oregon, USA late on Saturday (September 16).  This was his best performance.  Neeraj could not defeat Jakub Vadlech of Czech Republic.  Vadlech won first place in javelin throw with a distance of 84.24 meters.  Finland's Oliver Helander finished third with 83.74 metres.

25-year-old Neeraj had won the gold medal in the Diamond League last year.  His performance this season has been excellent.  Neeraj Chopra won the World Championship title for the first time last month.  If Neeraj had secured first place, he would have become the third player to defend the Diamond League title, but it did not happen.

Neeraj's javelin match was like this:

First throw: Neeraj's first attempt was a foul.  He stood last after the first round.  At the same time, Jakub Vadlech of Czech Republic captured the top.  He threw a distance of 84.01 meters in the first round.

Second throw: Neeraj made a brilliant comeback this time.  He threw a distance of 83.80 meters.  With this he came to second place.  His opponent Vadlech's second attempt was called a foul.

Third throw: Neeraj's third throw was weaker than the second.  He threw a distance of 81.37 meters.  Vadlech's third attempt was also called a foul.  Finland's Oliver Helander threw a distance of 83.74 meters.  He came in third place.

Fourth throw: Neeraj's fourth throw was declared a foul.  Oliver Helander's fourth throw also became foul.  At the same time, Vadlech, who was running at first position, also got fouled in his fourth attempt.

Fifth throw: Neeraj threw the javelin 80.74 meters in the fifth throw.  This was Neeraj's weakest throw in three successful attempts.  He was still in second place after five rounds.  Helander failed to throw the fifth throw properly and was called a foul.  At the same time, Wadlech made the correct throw this time after three foul throws.  He threw the javelin 82.58 meters.

Sixth Throw: Neeraj Chopra threw a distance of 80.90 meters in the sixth and last throw.  He could not leave Vadlech behind and had to be content with second place.  Helander threw 80.98 meters in the sixth attempt and Vadlech threw 84.24 meters.  This was his best performance this time.  He stood first.

How was Neeraj's performance in the Diamond League stages this year:

Neeraj had thrown the javelin 88.67 meters in the Doha Diamond League this year, while he had won with 87.66 meters in the Lausanne Diamond League.  Had finished second in Zurich Diamond League with a best attempt of 85.71.  Now in Oregon, USA, he stood second with 83.80 metres.
