Heavy rains causing havoc in Telangana, people swept away by floods

Telangana is again experiencing heavy rains.

Eight people died after being swept away by the river in Telangana.  Six bodies have been recovered but two are still missing.  According to Weather Office , there is no sign of rain stopping now.  Despite the reprieve from heavy rains, light to moderate rains with thundershowers at some places are likely till July 31 in various districts of the state.

A group of villagers were trying to cross a river to safety in a remote village in the state's Mulugu district on Thursday, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said.  At that time suddenly flood comes.  Eight people were washed away.  Four people were rescued that day.  Eight people were missing.  NDRF recovered six bodies on Friday.

State Police DG Anjani Kumar said that the district administrations have evacuated 19,000 people from the flooded areas to safer places.  3,500 residents have been sent to relief camps from the areas along the banks of the Godavari.  The worst situation in the state is in Kothagudem, Mulugu, Warangal, Khammam, Bhupalappalli and Hyderabad districts.

According to the administration sources in the state, although the amount of rain has reduced, most of the rivers in the state, including the Godavari, are still flowing above the danger level.  As a result, many villages are still under water.  Due to heavy to very heavy rains in North Telangana this week, the situation in the districts of that part of the state is dire.  Mulugu district received 600 mm of rain.  17 people have died in the state so far due to rain and flood conditions.  Among them, Khammam and Warangal districts have the highest number of deaths.
