Rain marred Test match days saw Aus , WI fight for survival vs Eng, India respectively

Rains proved spoilsport in both test matches that is going on at Old Trafford & Port of Spain.

At Manchester , the 4th day of the 4th Ashes test was a virtual washout except the delayed session before tea . Australian batters Marnus Labuschagne and Mitchell Marsh batted with resilience and showed good technique and temperament in challenging batting conditions . After technical struggles in first 3 tests , Labuschagne played very well at Manchester.  After a fine 51 in first innings,  Marnus batted superbly in the 2nd innings to score 111 before he was caught behind by Root who had to bowl in fading light . Marsh was batting stubbornly at 31 when rains stopped play with Australia on 214/5 and with an outside chance of saving the test with more rains predicted on day 5 .

Meanwhile at Port of Spain the West Indies batters showed great resilience on a rain hit  day 3 on which only 67 overs could be bowled .Braithwaite batted solidly for 75 before he was bowled by a brilliant off spinner by Ashwin, the ball spinning back through the gate . Mukesh Kumar got his debut wicket by getting an impressive Kirk Mackenzie caught behind for 32 .

West Indies lost two more wickets as Blackwood (20) was superbly caught by Rahane off Jadeja ahd Siraj clean bowled Joshua D Silva (10) with a superb inswinger .

However  Alick Athanaze (37) batted with resilience and showing good  application and with Holder on 11 , West Indies continues to keep hopes alive for a draw at 229/5
