2nd test day 5 washed out , India win test series v WI 1-0 but misses out crucial WTC points

Finally, what we  were dreading happened.  The last day of the Port of Spain Test between India and West Indies was completely washed out due to rain.  That is, the opportunity to capture the series 2-0 from the hands of Team India slipped.  On the last day of the match, Team India needed 8 wickets to win, but even before the start of the day's play, the rain started  and then continued, due to which the game was cancelled after waiting for about five hours and the match was declared a draw.

Team India won the first Test match played in Dominica within 3 days and took a 1-0 lead in the series.  The first two days of play in Port of Spain went smoothly, but from the third day rain started interfering.  This happened on the fourth day as well, but on both the days still the competition was seen.  On the fifth day, however, it rained completely.

Heavy rain drenched Port of Spain even before the start of the last day's play.  The situation was such that both the teams had not reached the ground even during the first session.  However, at around 10 pm (Indian time) the rain stopped and the match was scheduled to start at 10.45.  Before the game could start, the rain came again.

However, this rain lasted for a while and then it was decided to start the game again at 11.10.  Just a minute before this, light rain started again, which took a severe form in no time.  After about an hour of such heavy rain, it was decided to cancel the game and the match was declared a draw.

As far as the match is concerned, Team India had batted first and scored 438 runs in their first innings of one and a half day.  Virat Kohli, playing his 500th international match, made it memorable and scored his 29th Test century.  He scored 121 runs.  In response, West Indies scored 255 runs in the first innings.  Mohammad Siraj played a special role in settling him quickly, who took 5 wickets.  Then India declared the second innings after scoring 181 runs with the quick half-centuries of captain Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan.  West Indies had got a target of 365 runs, in response to which by the end of the fourth day, they had scored 76 runs losing 2 wickets.

The test series turned out to be very good one for Yashasvi Jaiswal  who made his test debut in this series and never looked out of depth.  With scores of 171, 52 and 38  Jaiswal showed that he is ready for the hard grind of international cricket and should be an all  format player .

The senior pros Rohit and Virat too got 100s and scored big runs while the spin twins Jadeja and Ashwin showed there class while Siraj emphasised on his skillset and thus proving that he is already a potent force in World .  In fact Siraj is the player of the match in the 2nd test after Jaiswal won it in the 1st on debut

On the other hand , West Indies introduced a couple of new faces in the side but overall they has a long way to go before they start re establishing themselves as a potent force in test cricket .

Team India won its 5th consecutive Test series in West Indies and 9th consecutive series against Windies team.  Since 2002, Team India has not lost any test to him.  Despite this, the Indian team definitely suffered a loss.  Due to the match draw, Team India missed out on getting full 12 points in the World Test Championship.  They have to be satisfied with only 4 points.  At the same time, the Windies team also got a chance to open the account with 4 points.
