Crawley (189) onslaught puts Eng in strong position vs Aus in 2nd day of 4th test

England  took the lead on the second day after restricting Australia to 317 runs.  Jack Crawley scored a blistering  189 runs.  Joe Root out for 84 runs.  England took the lead with their pair of 206 runs.  England score was 384/4 at the end of the second day. A lead of 67.

At the end of the first day, Australia were batting for 299 runs.  They lost eight wickets.  James Anderson took the wicket of Pat Cummins on the first ball of the second day.  The experienced pacer has been returned to this Test.  He did not get a wicket on the first day.  But Anderson took the Australian captain's wicket at the start of the second day.  After that, Australia did not last long at the crease.  They were allout on 317 runs. Starc was 36 not out .  Chris Woakes took the last wicket.  England's pacer took five wickets in the first innings.

Ben Duckett (1) got out in the third over when England came to bat.  The English opener punched Mitchell Starc's ball and handed the catch to the wicketkeeper.  That wicket, however, did not give England any major blow.  Crawley, the other opener, and Moin Ali, who came in at number three, put on a partnership of 121 runs.  Ollie Pope is out with an injury.  Moeen hence was promoted to third spot .  He scored 54 runs played some sparkling shots including some sublime off drives .  Starc broke that pair.  Moeen was brilliantly caught the hands of Usman Khwaja standing at midwicket.

England lost the second wicket for 130 runs.  That time was 27.1 overs.  The next wicket fell in 56.5 overs.  Crawley and Joe Root played 29.4 balls together.  They picked up 206 runs within this period at rapid pace .  This pair gave England the lead in Australia's run top.  It looked like Crawley's fourth century in Tests would get converted to a  double century.  But Cameron Green' knocked over Crawley's off-stump.  The English opener scored 189 runs off 182 balls in blazing fashion driving , pulling & flicking with disdain .  After that, Root could not stay at the crease for a long time.  He reached 84 after playing several dazzling shots . Root, the owner of 30 Test centuries, was bowled by Jos Hazlewood to a ball that kept very low .

England did not bat all day.  Australia batted first.  They have lost two wickets.  After that, their batters scored almost 400 runs.  Their aggressive cricket is becoming terrifying for the opposition.    They  led by 67 runs at the end of the second day in the fourth Test with  6 wickets still in hand with Brook (14*) and Stokes (24*) batting  steadily
