Rains prevent Eng from winning 4th Ashes test , Aus retain ashes again

Persistent rains on day 5 has prevented any play on the last day and England brutally fell short of a near sure shot win over Australia in the 4th Ashes yest after dominating the match for all the 4 days cricket was played .

The 4th day was also badly affected by rain but Australia batted in the post lunch session to extend their 2nd innings to 214/5 as Marnus Labuschagne completed a superb second innings 100 before falling to Root for 111. Mitch Marsh batted solidly for 31 notout and was joined by Green (3*) when play was called off on day 4 due to rains .

England hoped to square the series on day 5 but rains thwarted all their hopes

Now England will need to win at the Oval to avoid a series defeat . Australia on the other hand has retained the Ashes with one test to play and they are leading the series 2-1 .

With Ashes now retained by Australia,  England 's wait for an Ashes win continues since their last win at home in 2015 .

It now needs to be seen how both teams go about with changes if any at the Oval . Currently both Anderson and Warner seems to be uncertain starters for the 5th test and Australia may well go back to the one spinner formula after their bowling looked a bit ragged at Manchester
